As you can see we are making progress, but we still need to hear from more students. Click "Comment" below to tell of your own personal experience with the construction on SUNY Cortland's campus!!!
I live right across the street from the construction at Fitz and although I only have to wake up at 10:30 every morning, I find myself waking up around 7-8am due to all the construction outside. It's ridiculous how loud it is that early in the morning. Not only is the noise an issue, but the dust and gravel that is all over the sidewalk is also an annoyance. I don't understand why these things have to be done so early in the morning.
The construction in front of Fitz is super annoying. I work late at night and purposely made my classes in the day so that I can get some sleep at night. Unfortunately, every morning I get woken up by the wonderful construction workers, doing what I like to think is the loudest construction ever. As I write this comment now, I can hear the rumbling of trucks, and loud bangs (sounds like large pieces of metal being dropped). I understand that they are just doing their job, but is it really necessary to wake up the entire campus? I also think it is very unsafe for the giant construction trucks to be speeding around campus, pulling in and out of the zones. One day some poor kid walking to class is gonna get hit, because the drivers are reckless and in a rush. I really hope they quiet down the construction for finals week.
Everyday I wake up listening to the banging and pounding of construction. Even today for instance I woke at about 7:10 when there is no need for me to wake up until 9:00. It is way too hot for me to shut my window in the morning, but to distracting to keep it open. If the construction doesn't quiet down during finals week I will be furious. There is no need for the construction to start at least around 9 or 10am.
I live right by Fitz and also get woken up very early in the morning many weekdays because of the construction, and I normally don't need to wake up until 9:30. I understand that the construction needs to be completed and it will eventually better our campus, but I really would like to see the construction starting later in the day. Most college kids are up until about midnight or later, could they work later into the evening rather than starting at 7am? Also, last semester I was woken up by the construction in front of Randall, I feel like i can't get away from it anywhere on this campus! Now that it is getting hot outside, no one wants to close their windows, but we are forced to because of the noise.
I too live right near Fitz and deal with the noise of the contruction early in the morning when I would like to be sleeping. But in the evening when everyone is awake anyway it is silent. With finals week coming up it is very important that we students get as much sleep as we can get so that our grades do not suffer. It would be greatly appreciated if the administration could take this into consideration and make adjustments for the few days we have left in the semester.
I live across the street from the construction going on at Fitz. It is a huge annoyance to me and is very inconvenient. I am woken up every morning at 7 o clock in the morning. It is so loud, even during the day it is a eye sore. Dust and gravel are constantly being blown around. The campus isn't pretty anymore. The construction is so loud even when the windows are shut. I really don't understand why this construction is necessary at 7 in the morning especially so close to other dorms. Can't it wait until the summer?
I am thankful for the construction. This means we will be seeing our campus updated and be able to live in better rooms next year. We all remember what Bishop looked like before the remodel, and we can imagine that Fitz will look much better after. Having said that, it is a bit of an inconvenience to have the construction crews be so loud so early. It seems like whoever is running this site is doing a good job and helping us out. I hope an agreement can be made to help the entire campus community.
